WORKING OPPORTUNITY FROM R&D PROJECT OF ITEC SENIORS – INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

In the 17th of June, students from cycle 5 IT program, joint program between HCMUS and AUT, New Zealand successfully presented their capstone project.
Capstone project is one of the courses that seniors have to “deal with” before they graduate. Students receive actual requirements from other domestic and international companies and begin to deploy these requirements into software or services. The total time to complete these task is 6 months
Since 100% students qualified the IELTS certificates, they could easily write report and present the whole projects in English in front of the capstone councils from both of the HCMUS professors and AUT professors.
Students shared us that besides the technical knowledge they had learned, the most important skills that they gained from capstone was English skill, communicating skill, negotiating skill, team working, time managing and resolving problems.

Widely open opportunities
Besides the presentative from AUT and HCMUS, there were also the presentative from Glass Egg Digital Media, LogiGear, Robert Bosch Vietnam and Nexcel Solutions, . They wanted to learn from these projects and somewhat “scouted” on potential applicants for their own.
Mr. Pham Trung Hieu, technical manager from LogiGear said “I’m impressed by these projects. Students amazed me not only by their technical skills but also how they present in English, it is quite smooth and fluent, I suppose”. Along with Mr. Hieu Ms. Thanh, HR expert, said “ I am here to look for potential applicant and after a few groups, I saw the prospective in their eyes”.

After the presentation, ITEC received quite a lot of positive feedback from Robert Bosch Vietnam and Glass Egg Digital. They wanted ITEC students to work for them in the following period.
Science Service is a completely new major in Vietnam, in which people focus on model and technique that will be implemented to resolve IT problem and services. According to ITEC, 97% students graduating from the IT Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences Program, Science Service earned a spot in the working force right the way, only 3% left pursuing higher level of education in either domestic or international program.

In the 13thof June 2015, ITEC – HCMUS orchestrated a graduation ceremony for 95 students finishing their curriculum, from the Bachelor of Science in Management with a major in International Business collaborated between HCMUS-VNU, Vietnam and Keuka College, USA.
This ceremony occurred on the spirit of the American education. It was to honor the effort of students throughout their learning period. It was also a memorable moment to parents and lecturers, who was there side by side with our students. There was the appearance of the presentative of HCMUS, the principle and the presentative of the USA ambassador.
On behalf of the Ho Chi Minh University of Sciences, Mr. Nguyen Kim Quang, vice principle of HCMUS proudly said: “you put on the honor of one of the most prestigious universities in Sai Gon and the USA, therefore you put on a great responsibility of developing and enhancing these programs forward”.
Vice Principle of Keuka College, the USA, Dr. Paul Henry Forestell said:” This ceremony is the end, the opening and also a sequence of non-stop effort. Not everyone can archive this kind of accomplishment, receiving an international degree by both HCMUS, Vietnam and Keuka College, the USA. You’ve gained great knowledge on technical skills and business skills in order to face your own challenges in the future. Now is the right moment to take off, to explore new venture and to make your own moment”.

Among these 95 graduated students, the number of excellent students occupied 35%. 50% students received IELTS certificates (at least band 6.0). Especially, Ms. Nguyen Thu Oanh came first as the best student in her cycle, with her stellar learning results, IELTS band 7.5 and she also received AMCHAM scholarship from the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam

There were over 20 students landing a career in business before they graduated. Ms. Dao Thuy Tien (11BSM4) got an intern position from Intel enterprise, Dang Hoang Khanh Ngan (11BSM2) is working as vice director at Vinpearl, Nha Trang. The others are planning on taking further education or waiting for an interview with their employers.

This program mainly focuses on Experiential Learning, throughout 4 years, students from this program have been educated not only with theoretical knowledge but also with pragmatic projects. They put up an actual company, propose a business plan to their teachers, deploy that project and then contribute all the revenue to charity activities. Up until now, they have participated in 16 activities, including Thien Duyen gratitude house, the gratitude house of Dist. 8, Oncology Hospital with almost 100 million dong. These bachelors promise that they shall make a difference and contribute their best to our society.

At the moment, this program reached to its 4th cycle in Business Management and 8thcycle in IT with over 500 students. An applicant must hand in their high school report and their English skill. Announcement of Essay Game 2015
After 3 months from the launching date, the Essay Game 2015 of the University of Science and the US Education Agency organized, we have received nearly 300 entries from more than 50 high schools across Vietnam. Many interesting stories are about their inspiring professors in candidates’ lives, who carried the momentum and exert a profound influence for the students.
In May 23th, the International Training & Education Center (ITEC) and US Education Agency held an awards ceremony for the Essay Game 2015 with the participation of nearly 100 parents, students and representatives from various highschools.
Giving a speech at the ceremony, Mrs. Malikat Rufai, a cultural Attaché Consulate General of United States, said:” it’s intresting and touching when reading the essay about professor’s jobs, what they have shown beyond far my expectations. Education always gives us a good foundation and guide us to follow the bright path to their students which is wonderful.”
Critically, the essays must express truthful and deepest emotions toward the specific professor through the ability to write English fluently, accurately and convey their feeling. The organizers have worked hard to select the most deserving entries for the award. Below is a list of students with the highest winning entries:
First prize: Nguyen Do Xuan Quynh, Long An specialized Highschool.
Quynh’s biggest influencer is her physic professors, who retired. The professor’s advices help Quynh on making her best decision within nearly two decades of existence in this world. Finally, Quynh confidently stepped out from her suspicion, and thankful for the professors’ enlightenments and encouragements. Instead of wasting the valuable time for regretting mistakes, Quynh actually successed in almost important examinations, and gained an ability to achieve her childhood dream. The story is full of impulses and emotions of Quynh earned the first prize in this competition. In the result, she received a ipad mini 3, a premium gift from the Education USA and 50% scholarship for the first year in ITEC and University of Natural Science.
Second prize: Nguyen Phuong Ha, Le Hong Phong specialized Highschool.
Phuong Ha wrote about her 5th grade English teacher, who explained the equalization of sex theory. She strongly informed about willingly to against any wrongful acts toward women and believed that her future path would be followed the powerful thought of her teacher. Her second prize include an ipad mini, a premium gift from Education USA and 50% scholarship for the first year in ITEC and University of Science.

- Pham Gia Han, Le Hong Phong specialized highschool.
- Luong Van Truong Vu, Le Hong Phong specialized highschool.
The two third prizes, each one includes an ipod nano and 50% scholarship of first year in ITEC and University of Science.

ITEC Career Day 2015.
ITEC, University of Science, and Career Vision Organization held the ITEC Career Day 2015 on May 8th, the event attracted nearly 500 students and brought more than 700 job opportunities and internships for the participator.
The event wanted to support students seeking job opporturnities and access to prestigious businesses, when they are still schooling and immediately after graduation. The event is a bridge between students and potential employers, so the two group had a chance to stay connect and looking for a suitable candidates. On that day, the event proudly had 10 known enterprises such as Nestlé, Starbuck, AEON, PNJ, Golden Gate, Cungmua, LogiGear, Mega Life Science, ProserveIT, and Career Vision.
Come to the event, Thong Nguyen is a last year student of business administration from ITEC, who is currently working at Continental Hotel. Thong wanted to find a greater job opportunity, a new challenges, and developing in interview skills. Thong shared that he hope to have more.
In the event, nearly 500 students of ITEC and other schools within Ho Chi Minh city has the opportunities to reach firms through these activities, for example: listenning to lesson in career paths from leaders of successful firm. Also, with the main objective of the event, “Real Interview, Real Result”, the participators can have directly interview with the employeers.
Ms. Thanh Vo, the representative of LogiGear company shared that students are very dynamic and proactive in finding work and approach the employers. In her opion, these students were well trained in writing CV and interview skills. In order to be successful in the future, the students should be emphasized and maintained these skills and turn them into their habit, then the students won’t be embarrasing during their future interview. Futhermore, she noted that most students didn’t have working experiences, after graduated. However, the projects that ITEC student was done during 4 years to help them quite prominent.
In the end of Career Day 2015, many ITEC students are selected directly to go to the next round of recruitment. ITEC will continue our efforts to bring many rewarding career opportunities for students in further future.
ANNOUNCEMENT: ESSAY GAME AWARD 2015 – WRITE ABOUT YOUR GREATEST TEACHER

After almost 3 months, Essay Game contest presented by HCMUS and Education USA received nearly 300 essays from over 50 high school throughout the nation. These essays are all about inspirational stories about teachers who made an impact on contestants’ lives.
In the 23th of May 2015 ITEC and Education USA orchestrated the Essay Game Award Ceremony with over 100 participants who are students, their parents and the representative from exemplary high schools .

In her speech, Ms. Malikat Rufai, Foreign Service Officer at U.S. Department of State, said: “ it is such an excited and heart touching feeling with I read all these essays about teachers, what you’ve performed is way beyond my expectation. Education always underpins and orientates us to a brighter path. How you’re inspired by the teachers is so beautiful”.

The essay wins the price have to express the most honest emotion, express the feelings toward the writer’s teacher through compelling and comprehensive English.
The 1st price: Ms. Nguyen Do Xuan Quynh, Long An Specialized and Gifted high school
The teacher that made the greatest impact on Quynh is Ms. Hoa, a retired physic teacher. Ms. Hoa helped her “come up with the right decision during the past 20 years. Thanks to the enlightens and encouragement from Ms. Hoa, Quynh stepped out of her shadow and kept moving forward to please others. Instead of regretting, Quynh did her best to overcome the most challenging contest in her life time and now she accomplished her childhood dream. The story is so compelling and Quynh emotions bring her a unanimous award.
The award includes an IPad mini 3, a souvenir from Education USA and a 50% scholarship if she intended on learning at ITEC – HCMUS.

Phuong Ha wrote about Ms. Ngan, an English teacher from her 5th grade. She was the one who guided Phuong Ha to the feminism. She strongly believes that she’s willing to stand up to fight for woman’s rights. Ms. Ngan also inspired her to have a solid mindset in the following years.
